Blogging in an Elementary Classroom

Blogs can be used in numerous ways in a classroom. Some ways include having students use blogs to respond to a story, write a rough draft of a story and then other students or the teacher can view their work and help them edit it, or write to a pen pal in another state or even another country. Students are very adequate at using technology and blogging is a great way to hold the attention of your students while doing assignments.
If the teacher does use blogging as a form of writing, it is important for him or her to stress that all students use proper language, grammar and spelling. It may also be beneficial for the teacher to set up the blog in such a way that he or she must pre-approve any post that a student wishes to put up.
Teachers may also find blogging a great way to interact with parents at home. Teachers may want to post homeowrk assignments, a classroom schedule, or classroom news onto a blog that all parents can then follow. The teacher may even wish to post pictures of a classroom activity to share.
Another way to incorporate blogging into a classroom is that teachers can blog amongst their fellow co-workers to share ideas, thoughts, challenges and strategies.
